The scraper conveyor for mining is composed of head, middle part, tail, scraper chain and accessory devices (coal baffle, coal scraper, etc.). The head is composed of head frame, drive device (motor, reducer) and sprocket assembly. The middle part is connected by a transition groove and a plurality of middle grooves. The machine groove is divided into upper and lower grooves by steel plates, and a scraper chain is installed in the groove. The tail of the machine is composed of the tail frame, rotary drum or rotary sprocket, and has the same driving device as the head. Scraper chain consists of chain and scraper with a certain distance. A closed loop is formed around the head and tail of the machine. When the conveyor is working, the material on the slot is pushed to the head of the machine by the scraper chain. Scraper chain has single chain, double chain and three chain.

In the early days, plate chain and die forging chain were used, and now ring chain welded by high-strength alloy steel is used. In the early stage, the middle groove was pressed with sheet steel; in the present stage, the heavy middle groove was made of manganese steel by welding the groove side steel rolled by manganese steel with manganese steel plate, and various wear-resistant measures were adopted. The coal passing capacity of heavy-duty central tank produced in China can reach one million tons. Many motors are used for driving device, and a few hydraulic motors are used. The former uses the limited torque type hydraulic coupling between the motor and the reducer to improve the transmission characteristics.
